In Simon Amstell’s affecting, bittersweet comedy, a rising young filmmaker is thrown into emotional turmoil by a burgeoning romance and the upcoming premiere of his second feature. LUMI Film Club presents a free screening on QFT Player from 7pm on Thurs 19 Aug as part of Film Feels Hopeful.
The imminent release of film director Benjamin’s (Colin Morgan) sophomore feature plunges him into existential crisis. In this heightened state of insecurity, even meeting his potential dream match, young French musician Noah (Phénix Brossard), doesn’t soothe his fears and self-loathing. And that’s all before he has to screen his film to the merciless audiences of the BFI London Film Festival…
Benjamin sees director Amstell working in a low-key, intimate vein, exposing the contradictions of a London-centric creative culture whilst adroitly balancing drama and comedy, showing Amstell's skills as a nuanced filmmaker.

This year’s UK wide Film Feels season is all about feeling Hopeful, with a series of events that look at films imbued with hope, dreams of the future, and new ways of reimagining film itself, with a particular emphasis on creating space for voices that don't get heard in mainstream programming. Film Feels is managed by Film Hub Midlands on behalf of the BFI Film Audience Network, powered by National Lottery funding.
