Following their Academy Award-winning collaboration The Long Goodbye, Riz Ahmed and director Aneil Karia reunite for this bold Shakespearian adaptation, set in contemporary London.
Hamlet (Ahmed) returns to London for the funeral of his father, but he is shocked when his uncle, Claudius, announces that he’s marrying Hamlet’s just-widowed mother.
After seeing his father’s ghost, who says he was murdered by Claudius (Art Malik), Hamlet becomes consumed by rage and revenge. He goes to violent lengths to avenge his father’s murder, questioning not only his role in the family business, but his own sanity.
Also starring Timothy Spall as Polonius and Morfydd Clark who brings a touching sensitivity to her Ophelia.
"Aneil Karia's Hamlet is a gritty South Asian reimagining that boldly rips the play out of its primary setting and slams it into modern-day London with a cultural charge you haven’t quite seen before." Collider
