When two Brooklyn “yutes” are mistakenly charged with murder in rural Alabama, they turn to the only legal counsel they can afford: the motor-mouthed cousin of one of the accused. Unfortunately, their newly qualified lawyer has never won a case!
Bill and his friend Stan (Ralph Macchio and Mitchell Whitfield) are driving through the Deep South when, due to confusion and coincidence, they end up accidentally confessing to the murder of a convenience store clerk. Fortunately for them Bill’s cousin Vinny (Joe Pesci) has just passed the bar (at the sixth attempt). Arriving in the backwater town with a New Yorker attitude and his fiancée Mona Lisa (Marisa Tomei) in tow, Vinny faces an uphill battle to save the day.
Praised by judges and lawyers for its surprisingly accurate depiction of courtroom procedure, My Cousin Vinny is a highly quotable, side-splitting courtroom comedy featuring an Oscar-winning performance from Marisa Tomei.
All rise, for this honourable courtroom season. This summer QFT summons you to become “Judge Judy and executioner” with Objection!, a season of films that cross-examines borders and genres to explore the delivery of celluloid justice.
