Director Viet Linh tells the bittersweet story of a small traveling circus from Hanoi stopping in an impoverished village in Vietnam's central highlands.
When an itinerant circus arrives in a verdant ethnic minority village in the central highlands of Vietnam, the performers quickly learn that the villagers are in desperate need of rice, not entertainment. Despite this realisation, the circus continues its performances, attracting an ever-growing audience. But, when an unexpected turn of events escalates tensions, the stark contrast between the entertainers' illusions and the villagers' harsh reality is highlighted.
Strikingly shot in black and white, Travelling Circus is sadly an often-forgotten masterpiece of Vietnamese cinema and ripe for rediscovery.
Star Nhà Ease: Vietnamese Cinema is presented by Live Cinema UK & Tuyết Vân Huỳnh with the support of the BFI, awarding funds from the National Lottery & supported by Longdan LTD.
