Ceasefire Generation: Mental Health Resources

According to a 2018 study, nearly half of all young people in Northern Ireland have experienced a mental health problem. Below are some resources which may be helpful to anyone going through mental health issues or supporting others who are.
AWARE is the depression charity for Northern Ireland - and the only charity working exclusively for people with depression and bipolar disorder.
- They provide informational resources in a number of languages around understanding anxiety and depression.
- They also provide specific COVID-19 Support
- They deliver educational mental health and wellbeing programmes into communities, schools, colleges and workplace settings across Northern Ireland.
- They also run online Support Groups for people over the age of 18.
Pure Mental NI was founded in August 2019 by Jay Buntin and Matthew Taylor, both 17 at the time, with the aim of improving mental health awareness and education in Northern Ireland’s schools. They believe that young people need to have a say when it comes to their own mental health, and that their feedback and suggestions for how things can be improved are key for any future budgets and legislation.
- Get involved by creating your own Pure Mental Committee in your school or university. These pupil-led committees are made up of mental health champions who strive to make their school talk, to research and to work with Pure Mental NI to improve well-being in schools across Northern Ireland.
- Listen to their podcast where they cover all sorts of topics that may affect young people’s mental well-being.

PIPS Charity delivers Suicide Prevention and Bereavement Support Services, Counselling and Therapies across Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland.
- They offer a number of online resources including toolkits around grief during the pandemic, mealth health and money, and integrating family approaches.
- They also offer Counselling and Complimentary Therapies, home visits, one to one sessions and support groups.
Queen’s University Belfast offers a Student Wellbeing Service for QUB students.
- They offer counselling support as well as self-help materials and information on what you can do if you’re worried about a friend.
