European Association of Archaeologists Festival of Archaeology: This annual meeting is taking place at Queen’s University, Belfast from 30 August to 2 September 2023 and is a once-in-a-lifetime event that will see over 3000 archaeologists from across the world visit Belfast.

Kenneth Branagh and Colin Firth star as First World War veterans living in a rural Yorkshire village who come to terms with the after-effects of war while restoring a medieval mural on behalf of the village church.

Tom Birkin (Firth) is a weary veteran hoping to escape the horrors of war while carrying out restoration work in a sleepy village. There he forms a close friendship with archaeologist James Moon (Branagh), a fellow veteran also emotionally scarred following conflict. Together they settle into village life, forming bonds with local families. But their work takes an explosive turn when one ignites a long-denied passion within the pastor's young wife which forces the other veteran to face his own darker, inner desires.

Sadly neglected after its initial release, A Month in the Country is a precious, unexpected gem of a film, packing an emotional punch, especially in its treatment of religion and doubt, which will be of no surprise to anyone who has seen director Pat O'Connor's Cal.

This screening will be introduced by Dr Colm Donnelly from the School of Natural and Built Environment, QUB.

This screening coincides with the European Association of Archaeologists 2023 conference, which will see its 29th annual meeting held in Belfast from 30 August to 2 September.
