Baby Pictures is our regular Friday morning film slot exclusively for carers with little ones aged twelve months and under. This week we pay homage to the creative geniuses behind Hipgnosis.

Photographer, filmmaker, and art director Corbijn (Control, A Most Wanted Man) tells the story of how Thorgerson and Powell went from a two-man operation in the late sixties to become rock royalty in their own right by the seventies and firmly at the centre of one of the most creative, fertile eras of rock. Setting up shop on Denmark Street, in London’s Soho, the musician’s alley was the perfect place for the studio to create and conjure images that nobody had previously thought possible. From this dingy studio came Pink Floyd’s ‘Atom Heart Mother’ (1970) and ‘The Dark Side of the Moon’ (1973); Led Zeppelin’s ‘Houses of the Holy’ (1973); AC/DC ‘Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap’ (1976); and Peter Gabriel’s ‘Peter Gabriel’ (1978) amongst hundred of others.

From 1968 Hipgnosis worked tirelessly, always innovating and experimenting, their egos matching their talent and not always seeing eye-to-eye with each other or the bands. Corbijn tells their unique story, a vital part of music history, with archive footage from the studio, the stunning art they created, and interviews from those who lived it including; Robert Plant, Roger Waters, Jimmy Page, Paul McCartney, Peter Gabriel, David Gilmour and many more. Squaring the Circle: The Story of Hipgnosis is a document of egos, talent and creativity that will never be repeated.

Baby Pictures

Baby Pictures is open to carers and little ones of twelve months and under. As everyone in the cinema is a parent or carer, there’s no need to worry if it gets a little noisy. Everyone understands. Customers not accompanying a baby will be turned away.

The lights are turned up a little bit and the sound is a little softer to create a peaceful environment for you and the baby. It’s just for carers (Mum, Dad, Granny, Granda, whoever it is it looking after the tot) and babies. Up to two adults can come with a baby. Please note: we cannot allow babies over the age of 12 months to come to Baby Pictures.

If you have any questions about Baby Pictures, please get in touch on qftmanager@qub.ac.uk.
