Anne Hathaway proves that there’s a giant, city-crushing monster in all of us in Nacho Vigalondo’s genre-bending monster movie comedy.
Gloria (Hathaway) is an out-of-work party girl who, after getting kicked out of her apartment by her boyfriend, is forced to leave her life in New York and move back to her hometown. When news reports surface that a giant creature is destroying Seoul, Gloria gradually comes to the realisation that she is somehow connected to this far-off phenomenon.
Deconstructing the kaiju genre in wildly imaginative ways, writer-director Vigalondo unleashes a fantastical tale that also triumphs as a wholly original romantic comedy.
"It's a sci-fi/horror/psychodrama/comedy/thriller/revenge/romance film - and that jumble of a description not only works, it does so in spectacular fashion." - Toronto Star
