Dumped by his partner a few days before Christmas and struggling to find meaning in his life, a radio host goes for a drive to take his mind off his troubles and ends up in a war over wafers in director Bill Forsyth's (Local Hero) classic comedy.
Alan Bird (Bill Paterson) is on the verge of a breakdown. His private life is falling apart and his radio station bosses are ready to cut him loose. However, while on an innocuous drive he witnesses an ice cream van being attacked and destroyed by an angry competitor. As a result, Alan unwittingly finds himself in the middle of a turf war over who controls Glasgow’s ice cream supply. Intrigued by the unusual conflict, he throws himself into the story as a means of turning his career and his fortunes around.
A glorious Christmas comedy, Comfort and Joy not only provides plenty of laughs and entertainment, but also subtly allows audiences to discover a little something about themselves.
