Doineann, the Irish for ‘stormy weather’ is a twisting thriller set on a remote island off the coast of Northern Ireland. Starring Peter Coonan and Bríd Brennan, this Irish language feature is the debut of Director Damian McCann, and second feature for writer Aislinn Clarke.

Tomás, a busy Irish-language TV producer, is a private man, who likes to keep things quiet and ordered. He takes his wife Siobhan and their baby boy Oisín to their secluded holiday home, on a north coast island, any chance he gets. They keep to themselves. Tomás just wants to enjoy the peace. But when he gets an urgent work call, he must leave his family on the island.

When he returns later that day, his wife and their baby are gone. An investigation by the island's only police officer, the elderly Labhaoise, exposes that not all is as it seems. With a storm on the horizon, they search the island only to discover his wife's abandoned car and a body on the beach. The body of a man.

Since the film’s world premiere at the Galway Film Fleadh earlier this year, Doineann has gone on to screen at Newport Beach Film Festival in California, the Foyle Film Festival and the Belfast Film Festival where star Bríd Brennan was presented with the Reálta Award for Outstanding Contribution to Cinema.

The screening on Friday 28 January at 6.00pm will be a LUMI Presents event, featuring a Q&A with director Damian McCann and screenwriter Aislinn Clarke, hosted by LUMI programmer Michael McConway.

Fear príobháideach é Tomás, léiritheoir teilifís Gaeilge gnóthach. Is maith leis rudaí a choimeád ciúin agus in ord. Tógann sé a bhean Siobhán agus a mbabaí gleoite, Oisín, chuig a dteach saoire scoite ar oileán ar an chósta thuaidh, chomh minic agus is féidir. Ní théann siad amach, ní labhraíonn siad leis na hoileánaigh - níl ach suaimhneas na háite ag teastáil ó Thomás. Baineann sé sult as, go dtí go dtagann glao prainneach oibre - tá air filleadh ar an mhórthír. Ní thig leis brath ar dhuine ar bith eile - má fhágann sé a chúraimí ag duine eile, ní dhéanfar mar is ceart é. Ní mór dó féin imeacht, agus a theaghlach a fhágáil ar an oileán.

Níos déanaí sa lá céanna, filleann sé ar an oileán le fáil amach go bhfuil a bhean agus a mhac imithe - gan dé ná deatach orthu. Tugtar faoi fhiosrúchán, leis an t-aon gharda amháin ar an oileán, seanbhean darbh ainm Labhaoise. Ach ní mar a shíltear a bhítear. Le doineann ar an bhealach, déanann siad an t-oileán a chuardach, agus tagann siad ar rud: gluaisteán tréigthe a mhná, agus corpán ar an trá. Corpán fir.
