Filmed over two years across the UK, Europe and the US, this documentary follows 76 year-old retired builder, John Shipton’s tireless campaign to save his son, Julian Assange.
The world’s most famous political prisoner, WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has become an emblem of an international arm wrestle over freedom of journalism, government corruption and unpunished war crimes.
At the time of filming Julian was facing a sentence of 175 years if extradited to the US, which thrust his father into a tireless campaign to save his son; along the way, teaming up with Julian’s fiancé and legal advisor, Stella Moris.
With a human life at stake; and dire ramifications for global freedoms in the balance — this intimate story follows their fight and illuminates the powerful forces they confront. What we discover amid this global media storm, is a devoted father confronting regret, forgiveness and the mercurial connections of family.
On Friday 17 June 2022, Priti Patel approved the extradition of Julian Assange to the US, a decision WikiLeaks immediately said it would appeal against in the high court.
"Timely, deeply engrossing and finely made” Luke Buckmaster, The Guardian
