Bruno Dumont's second film about the historical heroine, following Jeannette: The Childhood of Joan of Arc, which received its Northern Irish premiere during QFT50 last year.
Adapted once again from the early 20th century theatrical works of writer and poet Charles Peguy, this second instalment follows the legend through her different battles against the English in 1429 on to her capture, trial and eventual execution only two years later.
This is an incredible but true saga. The entire film is peppered with lip-synched musical numbers composed by French rocker Christophe. Dumont was given a special mention by the Un certain regard jury at this year’s Cannes Film Festival.
Daniel Auteuil’s illustrator is given the chance to relive the day he met the love of his life, 40 years before, in this sophisticated French comedy-drama.
Oscar winner Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything) stars as one of the first recipients of gender reassignment surgery in this delicate, beautifully composed biopic directed by another Oscar winner, Tom Hooper (The King’s Speech).
