Director Ari Aster’s eagerly awaited follow up to Hereditary, Midsommar is a dread-soaked tale of a carefree summer descending into a hellish nightmare during the course of a once-in-a-lifetime pagan festival in rural Sweden.
Florence Pugh (The Falling) plays Dani, a college student whose relationship with Christian (Jack Reynor) is on the verge of collapse. However, when tragedy strikes close to home, Dani reluctantly accepts an invite from Christian to join him and his friends at a Swedish festival being held for the first time in 90 years. What promises to be a welcome escape from grief soon becomes an increasingly unnerving, viscerally disturbing and strikingly violent experience.
With a talented young cast and a writer-director already heralded as a horror auteur, Midsommar is one of this year’s most chilling and audacious films.
