Liam Neeson and Lesley Manville star in this intimate and sensitively-handled drama about a couple dealing with breast cancer, from directors Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn (Good Vibrations), and writer Owen McCafferty.

Joan (Manville) and Tom (Neeson) are a long-married couple settled in their ways, enjoying brisk walks at sunset and playful bickering. Then Joan discovers a lump in her breast, which starts a chain of events that threatens to change their relationship completely.

Lesley Manville and Liam Neeson make vivid the subtle shifts of temperature that define long-term intimacy, as two people dealing in very different ways with acute stress and the continuing echoes of an earlier tragedy. The script – by Northern Irish playwright Owen McCafferty – is smart and beautifully observed; and David Holmes and Brian Irvine’s score is restrained and quietly moving.

With a sober approach that avoids any slips into sentimentality, directors Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn capture both the extremity and the everydayness of cancer, in this warm and deeply affecting drama.

“Ravagingly honest and quite lovely.” - Leslie Felperin, Hollywood Reporter

The 6.20pm screening on Mon 9 Dec will be followed by a Q&A with co-director Lisa Barros D’Sa and will be hosted by Brian Henry Martin.
