This year QFT marks International Women’s Day with a tribute to one of cinema’s most significant and visionary female directors with a career spanning over 40 years.

In October 2015 the feminist and avant-garde film-maker Chantal Akerman took her own life at the age of 65. No Home Movie was her final film, a documentary still-life study of her elderly mother, Natalia (or Nelly) Akerman, a Holocaust survivor born in Poland. Akerman was extremely close to her mother and Nelly’s death undoubtedly contributed to the profound depression that led to Akerman’s suicide.

"Chantal Akerman's final film has almost unbearable poignancy and melancholy ..." - PETER BRADSHAW, THE GUARDIAN

Introduction by Dr Jennie Carlsten, Film Lecturer, Ulster University.

QFT welcomes Belfast’s first dedicated Human Rights Film Festival for a shorts and documentary film programme. The festival takes place at venues across Belfast from 3-8 March. Visit respectfilmfest.com for details of the full programme.
