Tom Vaughan-Lawlor (Love/Hate, Dublin Murders) stars as a Dublin dock worker in the throes of a mid life crisis in the Irish-British drama Rialto.
Following the death of his destructive and domineering father, and with his job at threat due to a workplace merger, Colm (Vaughan-Lawlor) begins to self-medicate with alcohol. Frustrated and feeling unable to communicate with his wife Claire (Monica Dolan), Colm begins a downward spiral that pushes him away from his family. When he encounters a young teenage hustler named Jay (Tom Glynn-Carney) the older Colm begins to develop a complex yet clandestine connection that leads him on an exploration of his sexuality.
Building on the promise of director Peter Mackie Burns’ debut feature Daphne, this is a powerful drama that treats its characters with sympathy. Written by Adam and Paul’s Mark O’Halloran, Rialto tackles the subject of toxic masculinity with a delicacy rarely seen in cinema today.
“Rialto builds an intimate portrait of masculine crisis, illuminated by two extraordinary central performances.” - Jessica Kiang, Variety
