Conspiracy and creeping paranoia seeps through every frame of Alan J Pakula’s The Parallax View, screening as part of its 50th anniversary.

Joseph Frady (Warren Beatty) is an ambitious reporter working in an atmosphere of dread and mistrust in 1970s America. Three years after witnessing the murder of a leading senator atop Seattle’s Space Needle, Frady begins digging into the mysterious circumstances surrounding the killing - and stumbles into a labyrinthine conspiracy far more sinister than he could have imagined.

The Parallax View’s coolly stylised, shadow-etched compositions by acclaimed cinematographer Gordon Willis give visual expression to a mood that begins as an anxious whisper and ends as a scream into the void.

"A political conspiracy thriller par excellence and a candidate perhaps for Beatty's finest screen moment." - David Wood, BBC
