A farmer's wife and her new neighbour find themselves irrevocably drawn to each other in Mona Fastvold's powerful 19th century romance set on the American frontier.

In upstate New York in the 1850s, grieving Abigail (Katherine Waterston) begins a new year on the rural farm where she lives with her taciturn husband Dyer (Casey Affleck). Life is drudgery and the weather harsh, with their stoic marriage becoming more estranged. As Spring arrives Abigail meets Tallie (Vanessa Kirby), an emotionally frank and arrestingly beautiful newcomer renting a neighbouring farm with her jealous and controlling husband, Finney (Christopher Abbot). Abigail and Tallie soon develop a close relationship, with both women illuminated and liberated by their intense bond, filling a void in their lives they never knew existed.

"A ravishingly beautiful love story...lovingly built on ground previously settled by Céline Sciamma’s Portrait of a Lady on Fire. - ★★★★" - Xan Brooks, The Guardian
