Joe Turner (Robert Redford), is a junior analyst in the C.I.A. tasked with scrutinising published texts from around the world for coded messages. One day he walks into his workplace to find all his co-workers dead. With a hitman (Max von Sydow) on his tail, he must suddenly outwit those responsible until he figures out the true scale of the conspiracy and corruption he faces.
