Join Cinemagic for a celebratory showcase of young filmmaking talent, from Northern Ireland and Ireland, at the 2024 ‘On the Pulse’ Competition Shortlist Showcase.

As well as celebrating the work of young filmmakers, the showcase allows next-gen creatives to view films made by their peers and offers opportunities for them to network and talk movies.

At the showcase the shortlisted films will be presented before we announce the 2024 winners for Live Action. Come along to celebrate the achievements of young people and meet the film making stars of the future.

Competition Shorts

Harwick (Dir: Calum Robert McCann)

A penitent and distraught man reflects on the horrors he had to endure while lost in the wilderness with his child.

House Phone (Dir: James McGlade)

A drama about estrangement, House Phone tells the story of Anne, a young woman making a call she’s put off for a long time.

Double Vodka and Blackcurrant (Dir: Dean Conway)

A hungover university student wakes up an hour late for work and procrastinates with her best friends before getting ready for the shift.

I Will Stay With You Until Morning (Dir: Jasper Banerjee)

3 missed calls. A voicemail he can’t bring himself to open. Aiden rushes to his troubled brother Conner at their childhood home, terrified of what he might find.

An Inventory of Traces (Dir: Jonny Rogers)

The “shifting divisions” of history provide an unstable foundation for the formation of our own sense of identity. This short experimental film meditates on the reality of this concept through balancing romanticism and realism within both the natural world, and the newly found digital world.

A Quare Racket (Dir: Zoe Carlin)

A trio of con artists attempt to fake a sighting of a banshee in their local town, to make money off merchandise. But during rehearsals an unexpected passer-by gives the perfect opportunity for a scare.

Le Chéile - Together (Dir: Róise Nic an Bheatha)

The world’s first film in Scottish Gaelic and Irish. A Scottish Rangers supporter and an Irish Celtic supporter find common ground on a bus ride home over their ability to speak similar languages.

How To Skin A Cheetah (Dir: Meghan O’Shaughnessy)

Bobby’s tales of hunting game on the plains of Tanzania inspire a sinister side in her mollycoddled co-worker Lucas.

Return to Sender (Dir: Peter Dundas)

A postman in 1990s Northern Ireland faces a perilous situation. Through a series of unfortunate events, he realises he has been the pawn of a terrorist scheme. He must overcome several divisions and difficulties to prevent the situation becoming explosive.

Camera Obscura (Dir: Conor James Carroll)

A delivery biker buys a used camera and finds some strange images left on the memory card.

Homofónia (Dir: Luke K. Murphy)

As their Debs application deadline approaches, a closeted couple must sort their domestic issues as Gaeilge to prevent their classmates from knowing they’re an item. However, translation issues leave their relationship in jeopardy.
