Hailing from parts unknown, festival freelancer and QFT regular Andrew Moore is the focus of this #WeAreQFT. Discover his law enforcement themed guilty pleasure, why he thinks Super Mario is ripe for a remake and what character he believes would give good life advice.

WeAreQFT Andrew Moore

weareqftandrewmoore.jpgYou are stuck at home and your favourite cinema is closed. What five films do you watch?

Who Framed Roger Rabbit (1988)

The Prestige (2006)

The Godfather Part 2 (1974)

Rear Window (1954)

Ghostbusters (1984)

What three words would you use to describe QFT?

Independent, local, ours.

What is your earliest cinema-going memory?

I was about four or five years old and our parents couldn’t take us on holiday that summer so they brought us into the city centre to Leisure World (still the best toy shop this city had ever seen, RIP) then to the Strand Cinema, which was only a 15 minute walk from our house, to see Don Bluth’s The Land Before Time (1988). If my memory serves me right I lasted about 20 minutes before the villainous T-Rex, Sharptooth, came on screen and had to be taken out in floods of tears of how terrifying it all was.

What film do you dislike that everyone else loves?

Wes Anderson’s Fantastic Mr Fox (2009).

What is your guilty pleasure film?

Police Academy (all of them), but I ain’t guilty about that.

What is your favourite film soundtrack?

O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)

What film character would you love to meet and why?

The Dude from The Big Lebowski (1998), I feel like he’d give good life advice…

What is the best thing about going to the cinema?

I’m someone who gets easily distracted. Due to the nature of my job I often joke to friends and loved ones that I’m always connected to The Matrix.

In a cinema though, I’m in this quiet space, a last bastion of solitude in an overly connected world, completely removed from everything for at least two hours, where no one can reach me and I’m able to fall into these bright, colourful, magical (and sometimes not so magical) worlds.

That’s something that shouldn’t be taken for granted – especially given current world events.

Do you have a special place in the cinema where you always sit?

Not so much these days but back when I used to go to press screenings in the QFT (circa 2010/11) it’s usually in the far right section and about the third or fourth row in. First seat, so it means I can let my long legs hang out to the side when the film has begun – and pray I don’t trip anyone up.

Who is your favourite film villain?

Judge Doom (played by Christopher Lloyd) in Who Framed Roger Rabbit. So sinister from the moment he’s introduced and manages to become even more evil by the end of the film.

What film do you think justifies a remake?

Super Mario Bros. (1993) deserves a much better big screen adaptation than what the world got in 1993.

What is your favourite movie quote?

“Listen! You smell something?” – Ray, Ghostbusters.

What film would you love to see at QFT when it reopens?

Y’know I’ve never seen The Godfather trilogy on the big screen. So probably that, back to back. Too much? Too much.

Who would play you in a film of your life?

Ideally Nick Offerman. But I’ll settle for Zach Galifianakis
