#WeAreQFT: Ross Cullen

10 March 2020

Going one-on-one with the #WeAreQFT questions of doom this week is Ross Cullen, who lets us know which film made him throw up as a child, why he has always been a middle man and what actor he would love to see do stunts.

WeAreQFT Ross Cullen

we-are-qft-ross-cullen.jpgWhat five films would you take to a desert island?

Seven Psychopaths (2012)

2001: A Space Odyssey (1968)

There Will Be Blood (2007)

Paris, Texas (1984)

Birdman (2014)

What three words would you use to describe QFT?

Comfortable, historical & pleasant.

What is your earliest cinema-going memory?

I can remember my dad bringing me to see Treasure Planet and we had to leave early because I threw up in the cinema. He ended up buying it on DVD when it came out and I watched it in the comfort of our house.

What was your favourite film of 2019?

Little Women - I love you Florence Pugh.

What is your guilty pleasure film?

Paddington 2.

What film would you be confident in recommending to a stranger?

City of God. One of the first foreign films I watched. A great coming of age tale set in the streets of Rio De Janeiro covering romance, greed and friendship - good as it gets.

What is your favourite film soundtrack?

Pulp Fiction. One of the first films that made me go off and listen to the soundtrack separately. The blend of surf rock and funk/soul really broadened my music taste at the time of watching it.

What is the best thing about going to the cinema?

I love the immersion of seeing a film at the cinema. The big screen and the surround sound with no disruptions is a dream. Being able to take a step into a different world for 2-3 hours has always been exciting for me.

Do you have a special place in a cinema screen where you always sit?

I’ve always been a middle man. Best place to take in the surround sound.

If you could time travel to any decade in film history which one would you choose?

The 1920s. I’d find it fascinating to see the likes of Buster Keaton do all the stunts. Also to see the old technology and camera techniques to see how exactly how far we’ve come from then.

Who is your favourite film villain?

Anton Chigurh from No Country for Old Men. I wouldn’t want to play coin toss with him.

Who would play you in a film of your life?

If we’re going with a dramatic biopic I’d go with Cillian Murphy. But if it was a comedy, Gene Wilder every day.
