Cinemagic presents five new short films made by young people from Northern Ireland, aged 16-19, and produced during BFI Film Academy Network Programmes and the Cinemagic Creative and Digital Technologies Academy.
The showcase will celebrate the achievements of the participants and will be an opportunity for young filmmakers to network and share their work with new audiences.
Cinemagic BFI Film Academy Showcase:
Rose (2021) - On their wedding anniversary, an elderly couple must come to terms with some hard truths about their relationship.
The Chippie (2021) - When a madcap heist goes wrong, a chip-shop employee finds a friendship he never expected.
Nobody Say A Thing (2022) - In the aftermath of a tragic night three friends find their relationship and version of events tested, with horrific consequences.
Have We Met Before? (2022) - On a blind date a young man finds an unexpected connection with his latest date, one that will change both their lives forever.
The BFI Film Academy Network programme delivered by Cinemagic equips young filmmakers, passionate about film, with the knowledge, skills, insight, confidence and practical training to help lay strong foundations for their pursuit of a career in the film industry. In addition to the industry and skills training and access to top professionals, the participants work in groups to make short films. A number of past participants in the programme have been involved in a series of exciting projects since their involvement with companies like HBO, Warner Brothers, BAFTA and Disney and some of our outstanding students were awarded places at the prestigious NFTS & Scottish Residential courses.
Cinemagic Creative and Digital Technologies Academy Presents:
Lose Your Way (2022) - A coming-of-age story that follows a teenager struggling with loneliness after moving to a new city. Jude starts taking driving lessons in a bid to fit in but soon discovers that a true and meaningful connection can sometimes be found in the most unexpected of places.
This project was developed as part of the Cinemagic Creative and Digital Technologies Academy giving young people the opportunity to develop skills in the creative industries, to gain on-set experience and training with professionals and to network with other young filmmakers. It was delivered by Cinemagic Film Festival in partnership with Belfast Metropolitan College and North West Regional College, supported by The Department for Economy NI.
